About CEMR

The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) brings together more than 100,000 municipalities, cities and regions, federated through 60 national associations from 41 European countries. It is the most important association of local and regional governments in Europe.
We promote the construction of a united, peaceful and democratic Europe founded upon local self-government and respect for the principle of subsidiarity.
CEMR advocates that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) be seen as a guiding principle for policy-making and action at a local, national and European level. Together with PLATFORMA, CEMR actively contributes to the localization of the SDGs in Europe and its partner countries.
The CEMR is also the European section of the world association of local and regional authorities (United Cities and Local Governments, UCLG) representing local and regional concerns in international forums.
